Class Reunions

Learning how to plan class reunions can be great practice for other events you may have to plan, such as weddings. Class reunions typically happen every ten years, and in most classes, it is the class president who has the responsibility for planning the reunion. This person needs to begin by finding a list of all seniors who graduated. The best way to find this list is to use a yearbook or a program from graduation.

The initial stage of planning class reunions should be forming committees. These events are large, and often last for a period of two to three days, meaning that it is vital to enlist others’ help. Use the list of people to think of ones who may be good at helping. Do not harbor ill feelings because of high school; remember that you may be surprised who you find who will help you. At any rate, you will need committees for invitations, transportation and hotels, decorations, food and beverages, entertainment, and facilities at a minimum. When you have assembled a team of committee chairs, you need to select a date for the event as well as location.

Because class reunions tend to take a long time to plan, you should begin this stage about a year in advance. Determining the location and put down a deposit on it before you get started. By setting the date, the committee chairs will know when and where the event will take place. That will make it easier to talk to other people about it. After you have a local down, the committees can get started, and they should check in with you at set intervals. The invitation committee will be the first to get into full swing as they will need to determine how to contact everyone. Class reunions can be great fun if you let them; just take the time to do the proper planning.
